The new Embassy building, close to the central business district, is a purpose built three-storey structure sitting within its own landscaped compound, which is designed to meet UK security requirements. Clad in narrow metallic panels, the building is known locally as a "billet of steel."
The building has been constructed with particular thought given to its environmental impact and includes solar water heating and rain water recycling. Wherever possible, local materials were used in its construction.
The project, which was delivered by the UK Foreign Office's Strategic Building Partner, Mace International, was successfully completed in just 16 months and below the original budget.
The building will be officially opened in October by the British Minister of Trade, the Lord Jones of Birmingham.
