E-Chevening on-line application guidance
Applications to the Chevening Scholarships are now on-line. We recommend that you read the information below carefully. This guidance will help you complete the on-line application form.
Application dates
The British Chevening Award for the academic year 2010/2011 for the Philippines, Marshall Islands, Micronesia and Palau begins 1 August 2009. All applications must be submitted before 15 October 2009. Late applications will not be accommodated.
Online applications are automatically time-stamped upon submission. Please submit your application within these dates, otherwise they will be automatically declined even is the system appears to accept your submission.
Please indicate that your application is for the academic year 2010/2011. If you indicate any academic year outside 2010/2011, your application will be automatically declined.
Accessing, saving and submitting your application
- You will be asked to create your username and password when you start your on-line application. You MUST remember your own log-on and password. We are not able to retrieve this for you. You will have to re-apply if you lose or forget your logon and password.
- You may “save” your application if you do not have all the required information on hand and return to it later.
- Once you submitted your application, your log-in and password will be deleted. You cannot make amendments nor have access to your application. Please check your application before clicking the “submit” button.
- If you wish to print your application, please do so before submitting your application.
- You will receive an e-mail confirmation after submitting your application. This e-mail also indicates your application reference number.
Filling in the application form
- For applications coming from Marshall Islands, Micronesia and Palau, please choose “phone interview” when asked about your nearest town/city since this refers to the location of where the interview be held.
- In the section called “Current Situation”, you will be asked for your “Post Grade”. Please indicate full details of your current or most recent employment for this section.
- In the section called “Academic Qualifications”, please include your qualifications attained after high school. If you have more than one qualification, use the “Add detail button”.
- You are allowed a maximum of 2,000 words in the section called “Personal Statement”. Please be concise and direct-to-the-point. Decisions on your application will be largely based on this part.
- Though the on-line application form allows you to choose what level of study you wish to take, the Chevening Scholarship does not cover undergraduate and doctorate studies. Please visit the website for more information about the courses covered by the programme.
- IELTS/TOEFL is not a requirement at the first stage of the application. Do not be obliged to take the examination to fill this section. Just place the letters “NA” in this field if you have not taken the examination. However, if you have already taken the examination and your result is still valid, please do indicate your over-all band score. Successful applicants will be asked to take the IELTS. The fees will be covered by the programme.

Notification of your status
After the application period, the British Council will contact selected applicants to submit the following additional requirements:
- Curriculum vitae
- Copy of transcripts of records
- 2 reference letters
These documents must be submitted between 01 to 15 November 2009 to the British Council office. Please indicate the application reference number and your name. Late submissions will be automatically rejected. We cannot accept documents submitted through fax or e-mail.
A final notification of your application status will be e-mailed to you after February 2010.
